This workshop will explore both the art of field recording and it’s creative applications in music production. From considering a variety of field recording techniques to extrapolating weird and wonderful sonic textures from these recordings, this workshop is an opportunity to learn how field recordings offer producers exciting technical, aesthetic and even socio-political textures in their music. The workshop will include engaging discussions, group listening and live demonstrations and is a must attend for any music producer keen to start broadening their sonic palette.

  • Dr Isobel Anderson

Dr Isobel Anderson is a UK based musician, sound artist and academic with a PhD in Sonic Arts from The Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), Queen’s University, Belfast where she specialised in field recording, studio composition and experimental performance. Alongside this, her self-produced, self-released albums have amassed over 25 million Spotify streams, and have been broadcast on BBC Radio 2, 3,4 and BBC 6 Music.  Anderson is also the founder of The Female DIY Musician, an online resource supporting female identifying musicians to record and release their music from home. This includes the critically acclaimed, Lovie Award shortlisted feminist music tech podcast, Girls Twiddling Knobs, an online community of over 1.3K members and an online course designed specifically for female musicians with over 300 alumni to date, Home Recording Academy.
