Welcome to our new series of open mic nights hosted by Music Hackspace! For these evenings we welcome anyone to come forward with a project that they would like to share and provide them with roughly 20 minutes to showcase the project and answer people's questions. There's no need for the projects to be professional, or even finished, we participate in this exercise with a supportive and open attitude to create work!
For our first night, we had the following!
(If you would like to showcase your project just drop us an email)
Particle Music / Andrei Antonescu
‘Particle Music’ is a generative musical experience that challenges the extractive nature of the contemporary web, which frequently demands our attention, interactions, and even personal data. In contrast to these normative digital demands, this piece carves out a tranquil space within the web – an area for meditation, dreaming, and experiencing a more serene side of digital life.
Sacred Vowels / Ian Macbeth
Sacred Vowels is a Max project designed to playback selected frequencies that correspond to the sacred vowels. These are designed to be used in meditation or for sound healing sessions, as well as for perfecting one’s chanting technique.Â
SPOKE / Tom Fox
SPOKE is a simplified way to add touch sensing to your projects. It has 26 capacitive touch inputs which can be easily customised to become any type of computer input. From USB-MIDI to Keyboard or even Mouse emulation. Customising the code is as simple as copying and pasting in Notepad and changing a few numbers. No specialist knowledge is needed.Â
Andrei is a Bucharest-based artist who likes to blend the technical and the creative. A natural hyphenate, he likes to explore generative systems and the intersection of seemingly unrelated data fields, such as pixels in an image and sound notes. Some notable achievements include the launch of "Pixel Music" in 2023, an application that transforms images into melodic sequences, and his 2021 "Tangled" project on Art Blocks, which draws 32-byte transaction hashes into 2D space . Andrei’s work has been exhibited at the National Museum of Contemporary Art of Romania, as part of an exhibition organized by the local maker space Modulab.
