SUMMARY:Workshop – Programming for Modular Synthesisers with Max MSP and Gen with Rebel Technology
DESCRIPTION:[shopify embed_type=”product” shop=”musichackspace.myshopify.com” product_handle=”a-music-hackspace-workshop-with-rebel-technology-programming-for-modular-synthesisers-with-max-msp-and-gen” show=”button-only”] \nMusic hackspace presents a one-day workshop with Rebel Technology. Participants will learn how to use Max MSP’s Gen to program synths and effects which can then be run on an OWL Modular synthesiser\, and used expressively in a modular environment. \nThe workshop combines programming with hands-on music making: a fun and effective way to learn new skills! \nThe workshop is for anyone wanting to learn musical programming and modular synthesis to get beyond the limits of traditional music software\, by designing their own personal\, unique musical instruments. \nRequirements: Computer with Max MSP + Google Chrome installed. Some basic computer skills and enthusiasm for electronic music\, no prior knowledge of Max required. \nThe workshop will be led by Cherif and Adam\, and Rebel Technology will be providing OWL Modules. \n11am: \n1.) Introduction to the Max MSP visual programming environment and Gen \n– A quick overview of Max and its applications. \n– What is Gen? \n– Difference between Gen and Max \n– Low level DSP and its applications (e.g. Hardware integration/Filter design) \n2.) Project 1: DSP synthesis \n– Learn how to build a synth in Gen \n– How to upload\, compile and run a Gen patch in the web browser. \n1pm (lunch) \n2pm: \n3.) Introduction to Modular synthesis \n– A short introduction to modular synthesis\, looking at concepts such as control voltage (cv) and triggers. \n2.30pm: \n4.) Software and Modular Integration \n– How to run your sine wave synthesiser on the OWL Modular \n– How to control and play this patch on a modular set up\, and what this brings to the software. \n3.30pm: \n6.) Project 2: Effects \n– We start building a simple but great sounding tape delay\, and then look at how we can improve it with feedback and a low pass filter to create a powerful Stereo Tape Delay. \n– Using the push button and our logic from (8)\, we then make a tap delay to synchronise tempos \n4.30pm (Cookie Break. Your music will be 33% better after you go eat some cookies) \n5pm: \n8.) Recap and modular jam! \n– Make some noise with all the patches you’ve been building! \n  \nRebel Technology make innovative\, programmable modular synths at Fort Rebel in Finsbury Park. They are the makers of the OWL Modular and the OWL Pedal which can run patches written by the user in Max MSP\, Pure Data\, FAUST or C++\, allowing everyone to develop their own unique hardware instruments. \nCherif Hashizume is a musician\, programmer\, producer and audio engineer. As head engineer and producer at Cafe Music Studios\, he’s worked with artists such as Brian Eno\, David Byrne and Jon Hopkins. He releases his own music via De-fence Records and Humble Soul Records. \nDr Adam Parkinson is musician\, programmer and teacher. Working in the departments of music and computing at Goldsmiths\, University of London\, he teaches modules in Max MSP and electronic music\, whilst researching new musical technologies. Releasing music as Dane Law on Quantum Natives\, he programs Pure Data patches to makes glitchy shoegaze from samples of rave and Celine Dion. \n[shopify embed_type=”product” shop=”musichackspace.myshopify.com” product_handle=”a-music-hackspace-workshop-with-rebel-technology-programming-for-modular-synthesisers-with-max-msp-and-gen” show=”button-only”] \nIf you have any questions about this event or any of our workshops please contact workshops@stagingmhs.local.

SUMMARY:Workshop – Sines Brain Wave and Sound Art Hackathon with AXNS
DESCRIPTION:On 18 – 19th March AXNS Collective\, in partnership with Imperial College London and Music Hackspace\, will be giving teams of sound artists\, neuroscientists and data analysts exclusive access to brain wave data from groundbreaking LSD research. \nThe two day hackathon event will bring together sound artists to work alongside neuroscientists and data analysts\, to explore the brain waves in novel ways and to create mind altering soundscapes\, aural installations and musical compositions from extracted features of the psychedelic brain data. We also welcome multi-media artworks that combine aural elements with visual or haptic ones. \nThe project offers an unprecedented opportunity for sound artists  to transform the dynamic structures of consciousness into art. It also encourages scientists to experiment with innovative and novel analysis techniques with the aim to expand the way we usually look at brain wave data. The idea is to provide the creative space for the scientist\, with the unconventional input from artists\, to work in an unconstrained manner outside of the lab and to turn the results into something other than a number. To access someone’s state of consciousness with the current research methods available remains a challenge. Our pioneering project provides the opportunity to think outside of the box about how we can capture someone’s subjective\, mind-altering psychedelic journey. \nThe hackathon will be a two-day event over the weekend of the 18/19th March\, with Dr. Carhart-Harris introducing the dataset and research. The interdisciplinary 5 teams (consisting of 1 sound artist grouped with 2-4 neuroscientist/data scientists) will then spend the remainder of the time working on their responses to the brief. \n \nThis event is now fully booked. If you have any questions about this event or any of our workshops please contact workshops@stagingmhs.local.

SUMMARY:Creative Data Club x Music Hackspace: Track. Translate. Transmit.
DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday 29th November 2016 (18:30 – 21:00)\nVenue: LimeWharf\, Vyner Street\, London. E2 9DJ\nProduced by: Sound and Music in partnership with Music Hackspace and Signal Noise \nTickets: Register for free \nIn November\, Music Hackspace will be hosting Creative Data Club right to the heart of LimeWharf’s cultural innovation hub in East London. \nData Gazing #2: Sound and Music is teaming up with celebrated information design agency Signal Noise for Creative Data Club Data Gazing Trilogy – a series of special future-focused data events. The event will feature a blend of creative speakers to brand new venues across the capital\, alongside a special event in Manchester\, as part of the Data Gazing Trilogy beginning this autumn. \nAs artists\, scientists\, designers and entrepreneurs\, we often find that\, even through the smallest of explorations\, there is a mass of data sitting at the very edge of our fingertips\, waiting to be used. But how do we use it? Are we open with it? Do we seek to share it with others? And if so\, what does that process of sharing involve? How do we translate and retransmit the data that we have been tracking? \nSpeakers Tim Exile\, Olivia Rzepczynski (what3words) and Alexis Kirke will be joining us to explore a breath of innovative and experimental uses of data sets; from generating sound and multimedia performance to providing an insight into better addressing the complex world in which we live today. \n#creativedata @MusicHackspace #SignalNoiseLDN \nThis is a free event\, so join us on a creative expedition of data interpretation today!  Audiences will be admitted on a first come\, first served basis. \n\nAbout Creative Data Club\nCreative Data Club is a platform for artists\, scientists\, agencies\, designers\, marketers\, programmers and even the odd data cynic to listen\, debate and be inspired by data and creativity. We bring together a handful of speakers from different backgrounds to share their thoughts and experiences\, exploring the expanding world of data with the likes of Sam Aaron\, creator of Sonic Pi\, Sandy Black from the London School of Fashion and Jay Short from design agency Inition. \nAbout Sound and Music\nSound and Music is the national charity for new music in the UK. Their mission is to maximise the opportunities for people to create and enjoy new music. Their work includes composer and artist development\, partnerships with a range of organisations\, audience development\, touring\, information and advice\, network building\, and education. Join the network: @Soundandmusic // /soundandmusic \nIn partnership with: \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith special thanks to:

Individual feedback will be provided upon request.\n\n\nThis workshop is lead by xname (aka Eleonora Oreggia) with assistance by Astrid Bin. \n“xname” is an  interdisciplinary artist born in Milan and based in London. She makes interactive installations and live performances. Made of self built electronics\, lines of code\, and other inert matter (noise\, dust)\, her alchemic constructions often contain a live element\, something that has to happen\, yet unpredictable. \nHer live compositions transform light and other electromagnetic frequencies in sound waves through self built synthetisers and complex semi chaotic machines. The result is a hypnotic spectacle dominated by industrial and noise-techno frequencies. \nShe is currently associated with the Augmented Instruments Laboratory at Queen Mary University where she is developing electronic musical instruments within the Antennas & Electromagnetics Group. She is also the founder of Nebularosa\, a record label promoting electronic music that challenges the established modes of music production. \nhttp://xname.cc\nhttp://nebularosa.net \n\nThe Music Hackspace programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England. \nThis activity is part of the workshop series #SoundUnfolded\, curated by Susanna Garcia. #SoundUnfolded  brings together action-based ideas about sound and explores the relationships we can establish with sound through the act of making. \n  \n

SUMMARY:'Naked Ear' exploring\, recording and listening workshop with Johann Diedrick
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is for artists and researchers wanting to become more familiar with the potential of sound. Our focus will be on expanding our understanding of sound in an environment. This requires a basic vocabulary for talking about sound as a material\, as well as the ability to make and use tools for investigating and manipulating sound for creative purposes. \nOur frame of reference will be Good Vibrations\, a mobile listening kit that allows “acoustic explorers” to find abandoned sounds in their environment. By using hand-made microphones and amplifiers\, listeners can tune into the subtle vibrations that usually go unnoticed. The project encourages listeners to reimagine their sonic environment by playfully exploring the world through their ears. \nThe workshop will introduce participants to the world of sound art\, while providing techniques for making tools for creating these experiences. This will include the fabrication of hand-made microphones and amplifiers for use in installations\, performances\, and scientific research. The goal of the workshop is to take these tools into the field and use them for artistic investigation and public engagement. \n[shopify embed_type=”product” shop=”musichackspace.myshopify.com” product_handle=”naked-ear-exploring-recording-and-listening-workshop-with-johann-diedrick” show=”all”] \nWith this item you will be booking a spot in the workshop. DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday 16th September\, doors open 18.30\nVenue: Cafe Oto – Project Space\, located just around the corner from Cafe OTO at 1-7 Ashwin Street – E8 3DL\nProduced by: Sound and Music in partnership with Music Hackspace \nTickets: The event is free but registration is essential >> Book here\nLeslie Deere and Jack James\, our Sound and Music Embedded composers-in-residence will present a showcase of their work developed during their 16 month residencies in a one-off event at Cafe Oto project space. \nTaking inspiration from their time at Music Hackspace\, both composers will present a snapshot of their diverse work exploring conceptual representations of musical composition\, the audio-visual experience of music making and the aesthetics of audio-visual technology. \nThe evening will be introduced by former Music Hackspace Embedded Composer in Residence Tim Murray-Browne (Cave of Sounds). \n  \n \nInstructions to The Oval Car Park \nDrawing from a period of social research into the locality surrounding Music Hackspace’s home in Containerville during 2015\, Jack James presents his text-based-score Instructions to The Oval Car Park. \nThrough a performance lecture Jack will explore his use of compositional narrative to document ad hoc social conventions used to navigate The Oval in Bethnal Green\, London as an informal car park. \nWhen parking on The Oval\, drivers park each other in and leave their mobile phone number on the car dashboard. Upon receiving calls\, drivers leave nearby workplaces to let each other out\, with cars moving and re parking periodically each day. \n  \n \n  \nModern Conjuring for Amateurs \nTaking its title from the eponymous book by J.C. Cannell\, a popular guide to learning tricks\, conjuring and ventriloquism\, Deere’s performance will combine her performing arts dance background with her sonic arts training\, as she creates a shared experience\, conjuring up sound and visuals with gesture. \nShe will control sound and image through gesture\, by way of Kinect camera and bespoke software. Drones\, chimes\, noise\, field recordings\, found audio\, sounds from CERN and the Quantizer Sonification Project combine to create a lilting minimal evocative work. \nLeslie Deere (photo by Marie Volognes) \n  \nEvent details \nVenue: Cafe Oto Project Space // 1-7 Ashwin Street – E8 3DL \nTime: Doors @ 6.30pm // Event @ 7 – 9pm \nTickets: The event is free but registration is essential >> Book here\n  \nAbout the composers \nAbout Leslie Deere \nLeslie Deere is a London based artist. SUMMARY:On the hybridisation of digital communication networks and analog radio protocols – Artist Talk with RYBN/.ORG
DESCRIPTION:This talk aims to introduce a few chosen actual digital radio infrastructures\, networks and initiatives in the perspective of artistic practices. Starting with the very beginning of the amateur radio movements that have emerged with the radio itself\, the talk will also cross roads with the birth of offshore pirate radios\, the movement of radio libres and their connection with the minitel in Paris and Bologna\, Max Neuhaus\, John Cage and the experimental uses of radio in sound arts\, optical network of data transmission in Czech Republic\, the Frei Funk movement in Germany\, micronations and data heavens. The talk will end with a presentation of various actual approaches of radio\, from the realms of miniFM to the communication networks of high-frequency trading. \nRYBN/.ORG is an extra-disciplinary artistic research platform\, funded in 2000 as a web entity\, disseminated into several servers all over the internet and physically present in Paris. RYBN.ORG operates through interactive & networked installations\, digital/analog visual cross-performances and pervasive computing. Their projects refer as well to the codified systems of the artistic representation (aesthetic\, painting\, architecture\, avant-garde\, music) as to the socio-politic and physical phenomenons\, exploring various fields such as economics\, data mass analysis\, perverted artificial intelligence\, disrupting auto-learning\, language and syntaxes\, sensory perception and cognitive systems. \nhttp://www.rybn.org \n \nThe Music Hackspace programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

Please note this £20 booking fee won’t be refunded in case of you cancelling / not showing. \nThanks for the reservation and see you soon! We will be in touch with you to confirm registration and provide further details. \nMore information: \nDuring the last past years\, the radio world has witnessed the rise of numerous initiatives related to the hybridization of traditional radio means with digital standards and systems\, nourishing and renewing the classic radio-amateur practises and approaches such as pirate satellite brazilian radios http://www.wired.com/2009/04/fleetcom/?currentPage=all \nBut even if technical protocols such as Software Defined Radio (SDR)\, streaming and p2p decentralized practices have opened new perspectives\, it is mostly the recent new political approaches of radio\, such as Kogawa’s MicroFM [A Micro Radio Manifesto http://anarchy.translocal.jp/radio/micro/o] or the Telecomix Internet radio initiative [http://telecomix.org/] that have unveiled new exciting territories. \nNowadays\, radio is -in its digital transformation\, far from the unidirectional relationship with the listener of the FM band. It is open to very local broadcast and wild transmissions over large spectrum\, carrying both sounds and data\, and offering to rethink its architecture on the principles of rhizomatic and meshed networks. \nFollowing the Π-Node experiments [https://www.p-node.org]\, this workshop proposes to explore the use of RTL-SDR antennas: \n\nprimary conceived for TNT television reception [dongle based on the RTL2832U chipset http://www.rtl-sdr.com/about-rtl-sdr/]\nsubverted to the reception of various signals from the radio spectrum from 20MHz to 2000MHz.\n\nThe antenna will be receiving waves of data messages\, encoded through Minimodem [http://www.whence.com/minimodem/] \nA Raspberry Pi will be transformed in a radio transmitter\, using the GPIO 4 and the PiFM software [PiFM: http://icrobotics.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Turning_the_Raspberry_Pi_Into_an_FM_Transmitter] \nParticipants willl use and connect those tools and techniques\, in order to create a chain of radio data relays\, and trying ultimately to subvert it by various means (radio interferences\, sound transformation\, data capture and text substitution\, etc…). \nPrevious knowledge \nParticipants shall have a basic knowledge of command line programming and a wide curiosity for radio phenomenons. \nLanguages used will be python\, but can also be programmed in other various langages (ruby\, java\, c++\, etc …) \nThis workshop will be led by RYBN.ORG \nRYBN.ORG is an extra-disciplinary artistic research platform\, funded in 2000 as a web entity\, disseminated into several servers all over the internet and physically present in Paris. RYBN.ORG operates through interactive & networked installations\, digital/analog visual cross-performances and pervasive computing. SUMMARY:Artist Talk – Dancing with music\, graphics and interactive experience with Jan Lee and Tim Murray-Browne
DESCRIPTION:Jan Lee and Tim Murray-Browne are artists who collaborate together to connect the dancing body with music\, graphics and interactive experience. They look at the performed moments in which we create our sense of self\, in relation to the sensorial worlds that we mould and in turn mould us. This includes interactive dance with body-controlled generative visuals\, immersive sound installations and research into sound architectures: how story and place can emerge through bodily sonic interaction with invisible forms. \nThey will talk about recent performance work\, including This Floating World\, an interactive dance show questioning the expressive power of the physical body evolved and amplified by technology. Also Oorgavé Oorgavé\, a poetry/dance performance in an interactive sound space\, telling the story of two travellers discovering the slip between human and animal\, speech and sound. They will talk about research completed in Rio de Janeiro last year in a residency with ZU-UK immersive theatre company researching what are the most basic structures of interactive sound and the question ‘Can we feel a sound pixel in space?’ \nFinally\, they will present a preview of their upcoming project Movement Alphabet\, combining immersive one-on-one audience interaction with body-driven generative visuals to create portraits of how audience members move and express themselves through their body. \n \n  \nThe Music Hackspace programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk - 'Eight Chapters in Four Movements' and 'Astrology of a Friday' by Teresa Cos
DESCRIPTION:Join Teresa Cos for a screening on two recent works combining image and sound emphasising a “collective hypnosis permeating our society”. The mechanical repetition of everyday rituals presented in the first video “Eight Chapters in Four Movements” will be seen in relation to the mesmeric reiteration of socio-political concepts of the second one “Astrology of a Friday”. The result in both cases is a sort of absurd dynamic stagnation. \n \nEIGHT CHAPTERS IN FOUR MOVEMENTS \nLondon Bridge is crossed every morning at the same time by thousands of commuters forming a river moving unidirectionally South to North. The scene is iconic and has been impressed many times in the news\, films\, documentaries\, lullabies and poetry. I observed for some time this phenomenon and calculated with rough mathematics the average pace of the commuters\, which resulted of 113 BPM. I decided to impersonate this rhythm\, walking robotically in the crowd following the beat of a metronome\, but developing four movements that engage and disrupt the linear conception of time embodied by the flow. The movements are intended as four different stages of a ritual and are repeated constantly from 8am to 9am. The performance was documented in first person with an unnoticeable video device fixed to my chest and the entire filmed footage is shown uncut in a life-size video installation. The work is accompanied by a sound piece consisting of the key words of Henri Lefebvre’s ‘Rythmanalysis’\, spoken continuosly for one hour at 113 BPM and it includes fragments of music mixed with ambience sounds\, as well as references to Steve Reich’s ‘Clapping Music’. The recorded action and soundtrack are phased and only synchronise at the video’s start and end. \n  \n2nd movement. Awareness\, walking backwards with the flow. \n  \nEight Chapters in Four movements score \n  \nASTROLOGY OF A FRIDAY \nThe film was shot in the General Assembly Room of the Province of Limburg’s Government Building\, where on the 7th of February 1992 the signing ceremony of the Treaty on European Union (the Maastricht Treaty) took place. Whilst the lights of the eighteen pointed star ceiling perform a choreography that goes in and out of sync with the soundtrack\, we hear a non- European voice reading the hopeful words of the preamble to the Treaty. \nTeresa Cos investigates the human condition\, understood as the endless negotiation between the self and the other and between the individual and society\, seen as one and the same. Her range of approaches\, which include and combine still and moving image\, sound\, performance and scoring\, are informed by her diverse backgrounds in architecture\, documentary photography\, and live music. Teresa’s work has been recently exhibited at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale\, the MOSTYN Gallery in Wales and the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation in Venice. She has been attending international residency programs such as the Botin Foundation in Santander with artist Tacita Dean and more recently the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. \n  \nFilm still \n  \nThe Music Hackspace programme is supported with public funding by Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:SuperCollider with Holger Ballweg – Sound Unfolded Workshops 2016
DESCRIPTION:8th June 19:00 – 21:00 @MachinesRoom\nSuperCollider with Holger Ballweg \n\n\nBuy SuperCollider with Holger Ballweg – Sound Unfolded Workshops 2016\nCollaborative live coding in SuperCollider. \nCollaboration in live computer music in general results in interesting performances\, as the styles of the performers merge and/or network effects\, e.g.\, delays in the delivery of network packages\, are exploited. SuperCollider comes with very good support for networking using OSC messages (Open Sound Control – a standard that enables exchanging messages between different computer music applications easily) and additional libraries make it even easier to collaborate. \nWe will explore different levels of collaboration\, specifically: \n– collaborative editing of sound-producing code;\n– sharing code between performers;\n– sharing data between performers\, e.g.\, a musical scale or a common tempo;\n– using and abusing the client-server architecture of SuperCollider to\, e.g.\, play sound on other people’s machines. \nWe will learn how to set them up\, play around with them\, and look at examples of them in use – and look at ways to debug them if things go wrong. \nYou will need your own computer (OSX / Windows/ Linux)\, and a pair of headphones. \n  \nHolger Ballweg is a live coder and programmer living in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). \nAfter studying for an M.A. in Music Informatics at Karlsruhe University of Music (Germany)\, he is now pursuing a PhD at Northumbria University\, Newcastle. \nHe is a member of the live coding laptop band Benoît and the Mandelbrots\, with whom he performed over 70 concerts in Germany and Europe exploring different ways of collaboration using SuperCollider\, which resulted in the development of their own collaborative live coding library\, BenoitLib. In 2012 Benoît and the Mandelbrots received an Honorary Mention at Prix Ars Electronica. He is also part of the Birmingham Laptop Ensemble (BiLE) and occasionally plays the laptop or saxophone in a duo with Shelly Knotts. As project assistant of the Network Music Festival in 2013 and 2014 he helped realise diverse networked and collaborative performances\, as well as being a participant in some of them. \n  \nSuperCollider is an incredibly powerful\, open-source\, cross-platform\, audio engine and programming language\, used not only to create music\, but also for machine listening\, audio/music reactive installations\, performance\, interactive systems\, research\, live-coding and much more. \nThis workshop is part of #SoundUnfolded taking place in the Machines Room classroom. \n  \n\n\nBuy SuperCollider with Holger Ballweg – Sound Unfolded Workshops 2016\nSupported using public funding by Arts Council England

SUMMARY:Artist Talk - composing music for weather conditions and forest ecosystems\, with Jones/Bulley
DESCRIPTION:Artist duo Jones/Bulley create large-scale sound installations that translate patterns and data into ever-changing compositions\, often sited in remote and wild environments. In this talk\, they will discuss composing music for weather conditions and forest ecosystems\, describe some of the technological and compositional challenges encountered through their work\, and explain why they are switching towards using their own ground-up open-source audio software. \nThey will also be giving the first work-in-progress demonstrations of a new work: a sound sculpture that uses a novel notation system to generate tonal music from real-time FM radio broadcasts\, running on a Raspberry Pi. \nJames Bulley (b. 1984) and Daniel Jones (b. 1983) are an artist duo whose collaborative practice explores the boundaries of sound art\, music\, and process-based composition. Their work draws on systems and patterns from the world around us as ways of organising sound\, creating a reciprocal relationship  between the two: using sound as a way to illuminate our understanding of the world\, and using natural processes as a way to deepen our approaches to composition. \nMembers of the New Radiophonic Workshop\, Jones/Bulley’s critically acclaimed work has been shown at venues including the Royal Festival Hall\, the Barbican\, the Museum of Science and Industry\, Aldeburgh Music\, the Old Royal Naval College\, the Queen Elizabeth Hall\, and the Design Museum. Their landscape sound work Living Symphonies toured four UK forests over summer 2014\, supported by Arts Council England\, Sound And Music\, and Forestry Commission England. \nTheir most recent commission\, Vespers\, was installed at the Southbank Centre (London\, UK) from May to September 2015\, co-commissioned by the World Wide Web Foundation. \nhttp://www.jones-bulley.com/ \n \n  \nThe Music Hackspace programme is support with public funding by Arts Council England.

SUMMARY:Artist Talk & Demo – Signum device with Víctor Mazón Gardoqui
DESCRIPTION:Listen to electromagnetic waves caused by modern devices and natural forces. Hear the patterns of ultraviolet and infrared light; the vibrations of ferric objects; the friction caused by insects and underwater sounds. Listen to the noise of tectonic movements\, or of lighting phenomena thousands of kilometers distant. These are just a few of the hidden sounds that we will listen during the event on monday 11th April\, after the hands on workshop in Cafe OTO on the 9th and 10th April. \nWe will have the chance to see the signum device in action\, exploring how different artists use the device during a practice based event lead by Víctor Mazón Gardoqui and with composer Neil Kaczor as special guest. \n \nThe talk will follow from a workshop at Cafe OTO on 9th and 10th of April. Register to the workshop! \nSIGNUM device is a translator – it uncovers the encrypted codes of information and the language of man/machine communication- which remain unintelligible without technical aid. Sharpening our awareness about what surrounds us\, we will capture radio waves\, FM/AM\, ultrasounds\, translocal network connections\, personal broadcast spaces\, inaudible electromagnetic fields\, photoelectric effects\, etc\, read with a micro controller like an Arduino\, Pic or a raspberry pi. SIGNUM can be used for various applications and in different environments: for the measurement and analysis of different signals through its 8 sensors and inputs\, for field recordings\, music composition or for aesthetic purposes within the sound or visual art praxis\, as it has the unique ability to provide a wide sound palette and hard-to-identify sounds. The device is intended as an experimental tool for educational purposes and artistic practice. \n \nThe Music Hackspace programme is support through public funding by Arts Council England.
