DESCRIPTION:Born in Lima\, Peru\, Maria Chávez is an abstract turntablist\, sound artist and DJ. Accidents\, coincidence and failures are themes that unite her sound sculptures\, installations and other works with her solo turntable performance practice. \nMaria will be performing a solo turntable show\, followed by Q&A from the audience and the chance to try out Maria’s methods yourself. \nMaria is the author of OF TECHNIQUE: Chance Procedures on Turntable\, a book of essays and illustrations that guide the novice turntablist to explore the world of needles and vinyl through the lens of deterioration\, destruction and the unexpected. \n \nDoors for this event will open at 18:30.The performance will begin at 19:00. Drinks will be available from the bar next to the entrance to the New Wing of Somerset House. \nThe venue is located on the ground floor of Somerset House and is fully wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet.
