SUMMARY:Inferno workshop with Yen Tzu Chang
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, the artist will share brief research on the formation of the inferno and its connection to society and sound/music culture. Following this\, participants will attempt to produce the sound of the inferno\, building a sculpture with a glass jar and several layers of copper speakers\, designed with different patterns to represent the inferno in our life. A song can be heard when a magnet is passed through the middle. This workshop is suitable for a beginner who does not have a relevant background. \nParticipants should bring a laptop and headphones. It is recommended that they install Audacity and the Arduino IDE software first. These are both free and open source. It will be useful (though not essential) to have some sort of software to edit geometry\, such as Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape (an open source equivalent to Illustrator). \nYen Tzu Chang (b. 1991\, TW) is a Taiwanese media artist who lives and studies in Linz\, Austria. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the new media art department of the Taipei National University of Art. The residency artistic outcome has been presented at the Ars Electronica Festival 2017. \nThis workshop is curated by Lucia H Chung (Happened) as part of her residency with Music Hackspace\, which aims to promote and give visibility to artists from Taiwan working with sound. Throughout July\, August and September\, four Taiwanese artists chosen by Lucia will be taking up short term residencies at Music Hackspace and delivering workshops\, artist talks and performances. Lucia’s residency will culminate with a final night of performances in late September. \n \nThe venue is located on the ground floor of Somerset House and is fully wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet.
