SUMMARY:Embedded residencies event: This Is Not A Composition
DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday 16th September\, doors open 18.30\nVenue: Cafe Oto – Project Space\, located just around the corner from Cafe OTO at 1-7 Ashwin Street – E8 3DL\nProduced by: Sound and Music in partnership with Music Hackspace \nTickets: The event is free but registration is essential >> Book here\nLeslie Deere and Jack James\, our Sound and Music Embedded composers-in-residence will present a showcase of their work developed during their 16 month residencies in a one-off event at Cafe Oto project space. \nTaking inspiration from their time at Music Hackspace\, both composers will present a snapshot of their diverse work exploring conceptual representations of musical composition\, the audio-visual experience of music making and the aesthetics of audio-visual technology. \nThe evening will be introduced by former Music Hackspace Embedded Composer in Residence Tim Murray-Browne (Cave of Sounds). \n  \n \nInstructions to The Oval Car Park \nDrawing from a period of social research into the locality surrounding Music Hackspace’s home in Containerville during 2015\, Jack James presents his text-based-score Instructions to The Oval Car Park. \nThrough a performance lecture Jack will explore his use of compositional narrative to document ad hoc social conventions used to navigate The Oval in Bethnal Green\, London as an informal car park. \nWhen parking on The Oval\, drivers park each other in and leave their mobile phone number on the car dashboard. Upon receiving calls\, drivers leave nearby workplaces to let each other out\, with cars moving and re parking periodically each day. \n  \n \n  \nModern Conjuring for Amateurs \nTaking its title from the eponymous book by J.C. Cannell\, a popular guide to learning tricks\, conjuring and ventriloquism\, Deere’s performance will combine her performing arts dance background with her sonic arts training\, as she creates a shared experience\, conjuring up sound and visuals with gesture. \nShe will control sound and image through gesture\, by way of Kinect camera and bespoke software. Drones\, chimes\, noise\, field recordings\, found audio\, sounds from CERN and the Quantizer Sonification Project combine to create a lilting minimal evocative work. \nLeslie Deere (photo by Marie Volognes) \n  \nEvent details \nVenue: Cafe Oto Project Space // 1-7 Ashwin Street – E8 3DL \nTime: Doors @ 6.30pm // Event @ 7 – 9pm \nTickets: The event is free but registration is essential >> Book here\n  \nAbout the composers \nAbout Leslie Deere \nLeslie Deere is a London based artist. SUMMARY:Signum device with Victor Mazon – Sound Unfolded Workshops 2016
DESCRIPTION:Two day workshop led by artist Victor Mazon. \nDate: 9 / 10 April\, 11am to 7pm.\nLocation: Cafe OTO Project Space\nCost: £95 (Keep your device! All electronic materials and documentation included) \nADVANCE BOOKING ESSENTIAL \nParticipants in the SIGNUM workshop will build and take home their own device\, which is designed to record and listen to sounds hidden in the electromagnetic spectrum: those invisible frequencies\, electromagnetic fields and signals that constantly surround us but that we are usually unable to hear. \nThe workshop will be lead by Victor Mazon Gardoqui\, who’s the author of the workshop’s concept\, electronics design and documentation. \nThe device includes a transducer\, opticals\, coils\, germanium diodes and a small loop antenna\, which coheres sonically and allows users to listen to surrounding signals that would fall out of the human hearing range. The workshop will also introduce participants to using the electromagnetic spectrum within artistic practices. \n. \nNo previous experience in electronics is necessary\, but interest and patience mandatory. \nMore info and bookings here! \nAdditionally you can register to the free follow up artist talk taking place at Music Hackspace (in LimeWharf) on April 11. \nThe Music Hackspace’ programme is supported using public funding by Arts Council England.
