Hugh Neal

Hugh has been working professionally in the music industry for over 20 years as a session musician, producer, engineer and mix engineer. During this time he has performed all over the globe and worked in many of the top London studios such as Abbey Road, Rak, Metropolis, Konk and State of the Ark.
Over the last few years, Hugh has begun to specialise in Dolby Atmos Mixing, building his own Dolby certified facility “Friary Studio B” just outside of London. The facility sits along with a fully analogue studio “Studio A” the home of producer Freemonk all based around a 48 Channel SSL G series console. The Friary studios work closely with audio companies and developers to constantly stay at the forefront of the curve in the ever fast moving music industry.

Hugh has worked with many artists and producers over his career including, Artists – Paul McCartney, James McCartney, Wretch 32, Jords, Tay Iwar, Kranium, Anastasia, Right Said Fred, Producers – David Khan, Youth, Russell Elevado, Simon “Barny” Barnicott to name a few.
Additionally working with major Labels like Sony RCA and various labels under Universal Music Group, becoming an approved UMG Dolby Atmos global engineer.

Additionally Hugh has worked in FE and HE education for over 15 years after attaining a BMus studying vocal performance at the prestigious “Vocal Tech” in London. After completing his degree in 2006 he immediately went to on to begin teaching at the facility, specialising in music technology and music theory. Over the following decade and a half, Hugh became athe music technology module leader and course writer for two separate degree courses encompassing educational levels 3 to 6 in the BMus performance and BA Song writing degrees at BIMM Institute London.
