Open Source: Sculpting Sound with Light

Starts on: 05/12/2024 18:00 London time

Membership plan: Just Curious | Topics: Sound Design

Course overview

Thursday 5th December 6PM UK

Kacper Ziemianin has spent more than a decade working with light to produce sound, and much of that time has been spent developing an advanced hardware instrument called 'LSe' (short for LightSeq). The system is an award-winning system designed specifically for live electronic music performance and interaction. It allows users to create sequences of light, that are then used to control, structure and interact with various parameters of sound. One of the sources of inspiration for this project was the issue of‚ 'liveness' of electronic music performance. How does the audience know if the performance is really live? How can we relate to the actions that the musicians are taking onstage? With the 'LSe' every sound is created and manipulated live by various light sources, creating a direct link between the visual and sonic realm and making it more tangible for the audience.

Who is this session for?

  • Electronic music performers looking to enhance live performances with innovative, interactive hardware that integrates light and sound.
  • Audio-visual artists and technologists interested in real-time sound manipulation and creating immersive, visually-linked performances.
