Speakers & presentations

  • Helen Bledsoe: Controlling Synthesizers through Live Performance

Helen Bledsoe will share some patches in-progress that combine onset detection, synthesis, and automated timing. These are crucial elements for the independent instrumentalist whose gestural energies are engaged playing their instrument. With inspiration from Rodrigo Constanza's SP Tools and "Generating Sound and Organizing Time" by Taylor and Wakefield, one can utilize ML tools and synthesis algorithms that depart from the usual sample-based live performance practice and delve more into off-the-grid human and instrumental sounds.

  • Marta Verde: Max/MSP: Where 'I Hope This Works' Meets Live Performance

With over ten years of diving into Max/MSP for interactive installations and audiovisual performances, Marta has navigated the challenges and rewards of bringing these complex creations from the studio to the stage. In this presentation, Marta will share some methods and strategies that have worked for me, focusing on setting up Max patches for live use; a personal journey of trial, error, and discovery in the realm of live audiovisual performances.
Marta Verde is a certified Max trainer, digital artist, creative technologist, maker, and educator. She is currently a full-time Associate Professor at Berklee College of Music (Valencia Campus) where she teaches Max/MSP and other topics related to technology and creativity.
