Hackathon Code of Conduct
This code of conduct is inspired by the Berlin Code of Conduct and adapted for Music Hackspace events. It applies to all participants, mentors, judges, sponsors, organisers, staff, and volunteers across event spaces, social activities, and online channels related to the hackathon.
Our Commitment
We are committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, socioeconomic background, technical experience, or level of participation.
We value respectful collaboration, curiosity, and generosity. Everyone should be able to focus on learning, building, and sharing work in a safe environment.
Expected Behaviour
- Be respectful, considerate, and constructive in communication and feedback.
- Ask for consent before physical contact, recording, or taking close-up photos/videos of others.
- Use inclusive language and make space for people with different backgrounds and skill levels.
- Support team members and fellow participants; collaborate in good faith.
- Respect event venues, equipment, and shared resources.
- Follow instructions from organisers and venue staff, including health and safety guidance.
Unacceptable Behaviour
- Harassment, intimidation, stalking, or sustained disruption of talks, demos, or team work.
- Discriminatory, demeaning, or exclusionary language, jokes, or conduct.
- Unwanted sexual attention, including inappropriate physical contact or sexualised imagery.
- Threats of violence, abusive behaviour, or encouraging harm toward any person.
- Deliberate damage, theft, or misuse of equipment, property, or digital systems.
- Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern or helps resolve an incident.
Reporting and Response
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates this code, contact the organising team as soon as possible at info@musichackspace.org. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first.
We will treat reports seriously, respond promptly, and handle information as sensitively as possible. We may involve venue security or relevant authorities when needed to protect participants.
Organisers may take any action they consider appropriate, including warnings, mediation, removal from specific activities, expulsion from the event without refund, or restrictions from future events.
Scope and Related Policies
This code applies throughout the full hackathon lifecycle, including registration, preparation channels, in-person activities, demos, social spaces, and follow-up communications.
Participation in Music Hackspace hackathons is limited to adults aged 18 and over. By registering, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old at the time of the event.
