Location: Music Hackspace, Unit 15, 5–10 Corbridge Crescent, E2 9DS

Date: April 5, 12:00-18:00

“Do you need a handheld experimental analog synth? Or have you had a Stylophone as a christmas or birthday present and you want to upgrade it? Are you a circuit bending & hardware hacking enthusiast?

Are you interested in learning some cool tricks about turning simple electronic sound toys into killer-sound noisy machines?? Then this is a workshop for you! HACK-A-STYLOPHONE WORKSHOP!!”

Workshop fee: GBP 45  / GBP 60 including Stylophone. Register via workshops@musichackspace.org

All materials and components included.

Circuit bending workshop  is dedicated to altering and upgrading the functions and sounds of original Stylophones (revived version). Participants will be guided through the process and completion of hard wiring the keyboard and transforming it into a useful analogue synthesizer; adding pitch controls, body contacts, sustain mods, CV (control Voltage) and other possible adds.

The upgraded Stylophone is particularly interesting to people using eurorack modular synthesizers and other modular systems. The CV function turns it into a powerful oscillator with a unique character.

The workshop will be led by Tasos Stamou, a dedicated circuit bender, instrument modifier/ designer and a tutor. He has been utilising his hacked creations into various sound performances and recordings of electroacoustic music. He has been leading workshops in various venues (U.K, Germany, Greece, Sweden, Lithuania, etc.) and in music festivals (Green Man Festival, SOTU Festival Lithuania, Athens Video Art festival). He is currently concentrated into video-bending techniques and DIY modular synthesizer interfaces.
