This is an informal, participatory meetup focusing on the visual programming environments Max MSP and Pure Data (Pd). A place to share knowledge, patches and ideas relating to visual programming. While this meetup primarily caters to existing users of Max and Pd, we encourage those unfamiliar with the platforms, but with a strong interest in them, to attend and chat with existing users about the possibilities. We recommend bringing a laptop to this event.

Max MSP and Pd are music programming environments that allow users to bring together sensors, samples, synthesis engines and video. They are used by sound artists throughout the world, but also by visual artists and in installations. Max MSP is developed and maintained by Cycling’74. It is proprietary software but can be used for free for 30 days. Pure Data is open source and available for free here.

If you’ve never heard of Max and want to see how it works, there are a few videos to get started on the Cycling’74 Youtube channel. Plenty of Pure Data resources can be found here.

This meetup is organised by Music Hackspace.

Drinks will be available from the bar next to the entrance to the New Wing of Somerset House.

The venue is located on the ground floor of Somerset House and is fully wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet. If you have any other access requirements, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate them.

If you have any questions about this event please contact info@stagingmhs.local.
