In this seminar, Lia Mice presented design considerations for creating large-scale gesturally performed digital musical instruments. Lia introduced her award-winning large instrument Chaos Bells, created as part of her PhD research into the impact of instrument size on music performance — discussing how it was conceived and constructed, its role in her research and creative practice, and what designers of instruments of all sizes can learn from it.
