A hands-on Max walkthrough for generating melodies algorithmically. Starting from example melodies and MIDI setup, it builds a step sequencer and transport, seeds it with random impulses, and shapes the output through rhythmic anchoring and small melodic variations. The later parts audition the first drafts, introduce larger interval jumps and duplicate-with-variation, and discuss where to take the system next. Assumes some familiarity with Max.
