Course overview

What to expect in this workshop? Build your own polyphonic synthesis device in RNBO via Max. Export it for use as a virtual instrument plug-in (VST/AU). What synthesis technique will be used? You will combine two oscillators to build a subtractive synthesiser. Made more interesting with an envelope generator and a lowpass filer. How does it all work? You will learn how to export a Max/RNBO patch to a VST/AudioUnit target. You will then be able to use your own plug-in inside any DAW. No need to learn programming languages. You only need to be familiar with the Max environment.

Learning outcomes

Build synthesis blocks and utilize MIDI input in RNBO

Define parameters and construct abstractions in RNBO

Setup polyphony in RNBO

Export and test a RNBO poly synth as a VST/AU plug-in

Who is this course for?

  • Sound designers looking to get started with building VST/AU instruments via RNBO
  • Music producers interested in exporting synthesis techniques created in RNBO to VST/AU plug-ins
