Meet a community of artists and innovators since 2011
The Music Hackspace was founded in 2011 by Jean-Baptiste Thiebaut, after attending several Music Hackday hackathons, where engineers, artists and companies would collaborate to build innovative music experiences. The Music Hackspace started with weekly meet-ups at the London Hackspace where participants could present and discuss their projects to an engaged audience with a set of common interests: sound, music, creativity and technology. The Music Hackspace’s mission is to foster a community of innovating artists, entrepreneurs and hobbyists eager to build new technologies for music production and interaction.
From 2017 to 2019, the Music Hackspace was co-directed by Tadeo Lopez-Sendon and Susanna Garcia, who developed a regular programme of artist-led workshops, talks, residencies and a talent development programme during a three year residency at Somerset House Studios (2017-19).
The Music Hackspace is now hosted by the Embodied Audio Visual Interaction group at Goldsmiths University.
Music Hackspace has been supported by funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England, Sound and Music, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and LimeWharf.

Where is Music Hackspace based?
We’re based at Goldsmiths University, London, UK, after spending three years at Somerset House (2017-2019).
I’d like to propose an event with Music Hackspace, how do I do this?
Please email us. We’re always looking for workshop leaders and artists who want to share their approach. The main themes we look to curate are: music and MIDI programming, video programming, DIY electronics, music technology, interactive art, creative coding, using technologies such as Max, Pure Data, SuperCollider, Unity, Unreal, TouchDesigner, Processing, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.
Are your events accessible?
Our events are now fully online! We are learning how to best support special needs via video conferencing and if there’s anything you’d like us to do better, please get in touch.
Who is Music Hackspace for?
Anyone with an interest in music and DIY technology. We aim to make our events as accessible as possible and offering a mix of free and paid for events.

I’ve booked a place on a workshop and can no longer attend. Can I get a refund?
If you let us know a week or more before the workshop, we can supply a refund. Please email us if this is the case.

Can I become a member?
We don’t currently offer membership, but may do in the future. If you have any ideas for what you’d like to get out of this, please let us know!
Do you have a communal working space?
Not in the conventional hackspace sense, as we don’t have a suitable space, but this may change in the future.

We are dedicated to providing an experience free of harassment and discrimination for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity or religion (or lack thereof). Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in a person being removed from an event. Please speak to Music Hackspace staff if you experience or witness any inappropriate behaviour.
